A database developer can be employed by the organizations for a variety of roles that may include data analysis, web analytics, business intelligence, data modeling, database administration, and database design, so appropriate skill may be required for the job role and to prove your skill. 
Database developers use a number of software and tools to manage the data records or RDBMS. Using appropriate software can make the data management easier. In the market, there is not a single database management system, instead, there are a number of database management systems like Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, and Oracle. You being a database developer may be supposed to be proficient in any one of the system or tools.
Almost every relational database management system uses the SQL language to access or store the records. However, you may also be supposed to know more than just managing a database like to make it secure and to handle the vast amount of data.
Separate SQL languages are used for separate database management systems like the SQL used for Microsoft Access is known as Access SQL while the one that is used for Oracle is known as PL/SQL and the one that is used by SQL Server is known as Tor Transact SQL.

Any valid degree may be sufficient for SQL or database developer job. Employers are mainly concerned with your technical skills and knowledge so they test the same when you apply for the job. You either may have any computer science degree or a non-technical degree to be able to apply for any job role.
Database developers are expected to have good communication skill written as well as verbal. As they may have to work in an environment where there can be communication between various departments and sectors internal or external of the organization. You must know the way to make and design a normalized database. It must be possible to handle one to one, one to many and many to many relationships. Familiarity with these steps can turn you a proficient database developer.
You must be able to handle bigger databases as well, like earlier if it was able to handle 3 tables so now it must be able to handle 6 tables. The bigger database size and projects are required by the organizations and they usually search an employee who can handle this.
For your organization try to build a database that is appropriate for it and can handle the data and information of the place. The database must be able to handle all or any specific problem of your organization that is also known as the live project. If you are not working for any organization then choose a non-profit organization, charity or school and give your time to prepare their database for their real requirements.

Building a database may not be enough you must also be able to get and collect the feedback from your clients. The real feedbacks will help you in collecting all information and making your database appropriate as per client’s requirement.
When your database gets ready you must try to learn the way to prepare reports. For that get an idea of all required reports for your client and for that try to write stored procedures or SQL queries that will help to maintain the database either through window software application or web-based interface.
For all aspects of database design and development try to take as many as possible quizzes. For this either you can take online quizzes or tests to check your knowledge. The more the quizzes you will take more expert you will become. Repeat the tests until you score more than 90% in that tests.
Collect all right and appropriate database buzzwords and mention in your resume properly. In your resume also enlist all database projects in the summarized manner that are handled by you. Now you can send your resume to the employers and attend the job interviews while get shortlisted. Do not send it to one or two organizations instead send it to as many organizations as possible.
