When Charles completed his graduation, he was not sure of how to start and grow a career in SQL Server space. Today, he is working as a SQL Server Lead at Oracle.
Four years back, Charles started his career as a DBA who wished he had learned to code during his graduation. In his career journey as a Salesforce Developer, he took training to learn how to code and landed his first job as a SQL Server DBA in a local company. After two years in his career as a DBA, Charles started working as a Salesforce Developer at Oracle, and he is a team leader today.
He believes from the bottom of his heart that if you know SQL Server Skills and a little programming, then you can do it. I had a conversation with Charles last month and want to share his story of how he started his career and how did he grow eventually. Also, what are the essential skills and education requirements to become a SQL Server Developer?
We will discuss the career path as well that is suitable for everyone either he is looking to start his career as a fresher, or he wants to switch to SQL Server Domain at the experienced level. However, the experience may be related or completely different sometimes.

Question: When did you join the SQL Certification training? What was the best part of this training?
Answer: I started to code in 2014, and after six months I started working as a DBA in a local Company. I love so many things about my SQL Server Training. I did gain the right confidence and skills in the domain. I learned to develop database apps, and today I am so flexible to build anything.
Question: There are so many DBAs who want to switch to SQL development. What would you suggest to them?
Answer: The tough part is getting started. Once you are on track, you can try different ways to succeed. When I started to code, I was not able to write even a single program. One day I was so frustrated that I decided to back out. Somehow, I managed to continue, and today I am a Lead SQL developer at Oracle.

Question: How did you get into SQL development?
Answer: There was an SQL project where little knowledge of programming language was a must. Nobody was ready to take up that project because of lack of skills or knowledge. I showed courage and decided to work on the project. It was tough for me to write even a few lines of code and there was no one to mentor me. It was the phase when I realized that I need a mentor who can guide me throughout my career journey. JanBask Training gave me the right boost to start and grow in the SQL Server space eventually.
Questions: What are your tips for getting a dream job as a SQL Server Developer?
Answer: People having non-technical backgrounds are not sure of getting a job in the IT industry. I would say don’t underestimate yourself but understand the side of the business and propose the most creative solutions. If you know how to code, then you can quickly enter the IT industry. Companies need people who can perform and implement solutions. It does not matter for anyone either you belong to an IT or non-IT background. Further, I would suggest getting certified. If you are certified then it is easy to find a job as a SQL Server Developer. You may earn a certification by joining the online SQL classes and practice continuously for almost 3 months or 100 hours studies is enough for the same.

Question: Any last words of wisdom that can help learners to grow in the field?
Answer: If you are not dedicated and focused on your work, then you cannot be a great coder. You can start your career as a DBA to get the basic knowledge of the platform then you can switch to the development after two or three years. The only thing I would suggest to keep moving and never give up your efforts. Success cannot be achieved overnight, but it is the outcome of constant efforts and practice.
