What is a Stakeholder?

Stakeholders are individuals or groups with an interest in the project, program or portfolio because they are involved in the work or affected by the outcomes. Most projects, programs and portfolios will have a variety of stakeholders with different, and sometimes competing, interests involved as per needs. These individuals and groups can have significant influence over the eventual success or failure of the project, program or portfolio. If the project is small, you will have a few stakeholders. For a larger project, you may have a huge number of stakeholders involved in them, which may include communities or the public.
