Are there any privacy/security risks associated with using payment handlers in Google Chrome?

Somehow, the idea of having my financial information stored in a browser makes me feel uncomfortable. I almost always use PayPal whenever I decide to shop on non-Amazon websites to avoid giving my financial information directly to the website, so should I disable this? To be clear, the setting I'm asking about can be found in Google Chrome under Settings > Advanced > Content settings > Payment Handlers.

A payment handler is user software to make a payment. Payment handlers may be implemented as Web pages, native mobile apps, or even built into the browser. Since the launch of the Web Payments Working Group, we have had as a goal to add extensibility hooks to browsers to foster payment handler innovation.

Payment Handlers in Google Chrome streamline online payments by allowing websites to directly access your saved payment methods, eliminating the need to re-enter them each time. While convenient, this raises privacy concerns for some users who prefer not to store financial information in their browser. Disabling Payment Handlers ensures greater control over your data, aligning with your preference of using PayPal for non-Amazon purchases. However, remember that PayPal also collects financial information, so ultimately the privacy risk depends on which platform you feel more comfortable trusting.
