What's the google device policy iphone?

I'd like to configure my company's Google email on my iPhone, however when enabling e-mail profile in Inbox, Gmail, Mail or any other app, the following Device Policy Alert is shown: To use Google apps on this device as ..., your organisation requires that you install a security profile to keep your data safe.

And on the next screen the Google Apps Device Policy Profile says:

Your admin may enforce policies, configure settings, and remotely erase data on this device.

I would argue how allowing remotely erase data on this device keeps my data safe, but anyway.

My question is, what are the security risks involved by installing the above Google policy profile which warns me that somebody from the company which I work for can remotely erase my personal data on my device?

In other words, is this policy profile applied only for the email data (like restricting the removal option only for specific apps) or any other data as well (like personal emails, contacts, files, pictures, etc.), where somebody can accidentally wipe out my whole device?

The short answer to your question of google device policy iphone is "Yes". If the phone given to you is a "company phone", you must comply. If this is your phone, as the message mentioned, you must contact your company IT to check out the actual policy enforced. This is something internal, there is no way to tell how far the policy is enforced. Since mobile phones are cheap nowadays, I suggest you get another phone for such "company usage". You don't need an active phone service for that phone, you can tether your current phone as a WIFI access point to that phone to download email from time to time.

The Google Device Policy app for iPhone is designed to help manage and secure mobile devices used within organizations that use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite). This app enables IT administrators to enforce security policies and manage access to corporate data from mobile devices. Here’s a detailed overview of what the Google Device Policy app does on iPhones:

Enforce Security Policies:

IT administrators can enforce security policies such as requiring a passcode, setting passcode complexity, and specifying the maximum number of failed login attempts before the device is locked or wiped.

Remote Wipe:

In case a device is lost or stolen, administrators can remotely wipe corporate data from the device to prevent unauthorized access.

Access Control:

Control which devices can access corporate data and services. Devices that do not comply with the security policies can be blocked from accessing Google Workspace services like Gmail, Google Drive, and more.

Compliance Checks:

Regular compliance checks ensure that devices adhere to the set policies. Non-compliant devices may be denied access to corporate resources until they comply with the policies.

Device Inventory:

IT administrators can maintain an inventory of all devices that access corporate data, including device details like model, OS version, and security status.

App Management:

Control which apps can be installed and used on the device, ensuring that only approved apps are used for work purposes.
