I am in the role of a financial analyst and Currently I am working on a complex budget analysis in the Microsoft Excel Database. My manager has asked me to calculate the standard deviation of a group of data related to finance to gain a better understanding of the variance. Explain to me how can I SIGMA function in EXCEL to get my objective.

In the context of a database, You can use the Sigma function in Excel to get your provided Objective. Here are the steps given for how you can achieve it:-

Select data range

Firstly, try to select the data range which you want to calculate further.

Use STDEV.P or STDEV.S

You can use either STDEV.P or STDEV.S for a sample deviation or a population standard deviation respectively.

= STDEV.P(RANGE)
OR
=STDEV.S(RANGE)

Consider a scenario where you select the data range between A1 to A10, then the formula would look like this:-

=STDEV.P(A1:A10)
OR
=STDEV.S(A1:A10)

This would help you in calculating the standard deviations for your complex budget analysis.
