Nagios can also send alerts to other contact groups which can be marked as “escalated” one if no action has been taken on any such alert for more than a prescribed time (as mentioned in configuration). These alerts are sent to another set of contact groups if no action has been taken for triggered notifications within the prescribed time frame.

This can be enabled via Configure -> Core config manager - > Alerting - > Host escalations.
