In the context of URI vs URL, let’s understand the URI first. URI stands for Uniform Resource Identifier. It is a string of characters that is used for identifying the resources. On the other hand, the URL refers to the Uniform Resource Locator which is a type of URI. It is mainly used to locate a resource by identifying the addresses.

The components of a URL are Domain, path, and other additional elements. When all subparts are combined it works for accessing a file. On the other hand, the URI is a bigger term. It is like an umbrella term for many other sub-parts whose primary work is to identify the resources in a unique manner.

Understanding the differences between URI and URL is very crucial in the context of referring to the exact address of a resource (URL) or in general resource identifier (URL) in the field like web-based systems, protocols, or software.
