Data set are the specific way to create the query and support the report on run time execution with data. There can be a scenario where we wanted to use the same data set for multiple reports. As an example, let’s say I have a set of 10 reports where I am showing the data based on year on year growth in different segments of industry like employee count, sales, profit/loss, asset count, finances, market value etc. Now one thing which is common in each of them is parameter YEARS. So instead of fetch the year again and again for all the reports, I can create a shared data source in SSRS and use it in multiple ways. It will reduce the amount of work and increase the code reusability practice as well. We can create the data set shared by creating it inside the project hierarchy instead of creating it for each and every folder.
