Silverlight is a discontinued web application framework provided by the Microsoft platform. It is mainly used in web development. It offers multimedia and rich internet application features. Its main objective is to integrate multimedia, graphics, and animation into web browsers so that you can provide an interactive and attractive user experience. Moreover, its aim is to compete with Adobe Flash in the field of vector graphics, media streaming, and animation. Developers use Silverlight for building web applications and services like media and streaming platforms.

However, as mentioned above Silverlight has been a discontinued platform since 2021. Microsoft discontinued it due to a shift in web technologies and the rise of HTML5 along with decreased browser support. However, despite its discontinuation, it played a key and significant role in fields like web development. It made the tasks easy for web developers as this was a user-friendly platform for them. It also paved the way for the future by assuring the advancement of technologies regarding web development platforms and user experience design which we are enjoying today. Therefore all the credit goes to Silverlight.
